Ilikai Facade Renovation
The new owners of the famous Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki wanted to refresh and renovate the image of this landmark hotel. The challenge was to modernize the look and image of the façade while honoring and respecting the past. The solution was the use of colored translucent and fritted glass lanai railing systems to replace the aging metal railing. The top four floors were differentiated from the body of the tower by re-glazing the units. The rooftop will be transformed into an outdoor dining and bar experience shaded by Teflon-coated tensile structure. The lights from the nighttime activities will set the tensile structure aglow. The iconographic green-blue color at the exterior elevator shaft and the glass lanai rails were retained.
